Richard Ranft is Head of Sound & Vision at the British Library, with responsibility for 7 million sound recordings, 280,000 moving image items and 750m newspaper pages, and for bringing them together in digital form to create new services for users of the collections. He currently oversees the 2017-22 Unlocking our Sound Heritage Project, which aims to transform the UK’s capacity for preserving and making accessible its rarest and most at-risk audio collections. He serves on the boards of IASA, the Audio-visual Think Tank and a number of UK university audio research projects, and was the Coordinator of the 2014-17 Europeana Sounds project.
