Judith Opoku-Boateng is the Head Archivist of the J. H. Kwabena Nketia Archives of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon. She has formal qualifications in Sociology and Archival Studies from the University of Ghana.   She started her career as a researcher documenting music and dance forms from indigenous communities in Ghana and later developed keen interest in audiovisual heritage preservation. She has had the opportunity of managing complex audiovisual heritage materials at the International Centre for African Music and Dance and the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana.  She has received specialist training in Audiovisual archiving from Audiovisual Preservation Exchange (APEX), FIAF School on Wheels, ICCROM (SOIMA 2013 and 2015) and CFI-France, and presented papers at international conferences and workshops on Audiovisual Heritage Preservation Globally.  Her Archive recently implemented the “long awaited” digital repository project (MAARA: Please visit: www.apexghana.org) , with support from the New York University (NYU), Audiovisual Preservation Solutions (AVPreserve) and the University of Ghana.  She has been a private consultant for ICCROM from October 2015 to March 2017 and has volunteered as an ambassador for heritage preservation bodies globally.  She is a member of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA), the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA), Arts Council Association of the African Studies Association (ACASA) and a Technical Committee Member as well as a resource person for SOIMA (ICCROM initiative).
